Accentuate Your Interiors with a Locally-Sourced Eskayel Fabric Wall Hanging or Woven Basket by Shanan Campanaro
When we see Fatima wrapping together the basket at Colonial Mills - she's the woman in the photographs - we are reminded of the benefits to producing locally. From their head designer to those in charge of the end product, the goods at the Brooklyn-based studio Eskayel are a class act. They strive to create beautiful, clever and innovative products of the interior space. Behind the magic, Shanan Campanaro utilizes imagery from her paintings the inspiration for the baskets, wall hangings and coverings, textiles, pillows, and ceramics that she makes with the help of the mom-and-pop factories in Northeast United States.
After graduating with a BFA from Central St. Martins of London in 2003, Campanaro went into her studio, diving head-first into a heavy exhibition schedule with support from the New York Foundation for the Arts. After the success of her debut, she continued to design fashion textiles and graphics in New York - most notably at Express as a senior designer. Since then, she started Eskayel, launching three major collections into the hands of press who gladly published much of her work in the New York Times, Interior Design Magazine, House Beautiful, Luxe interiors, and Daily Candy (among others).
While redecorating her apartment in the spring of 2008, Shanan Campanaro decided to experiment with the idea of making wallpaper by digitally manipulating sections of her paintings. After fabulous results she began using the designs in her exhibitions, which quickly led to her first interior wallpaper commissions. The surge in interest prompted her to launch ESKAYEL at the Brooklyn Designs Juried show in May 2009.
