Black Penta Lamp by Jonathan Dorthe
Designer Jonathan Dorthe has added a new wrinkle to suspension luminaires in the form of the clever and practical Black Penta Lamp.
Effective Execution of a Streamlined Design
Inspired, perhaps, by the formal simplicity and artistic execution of the art of Origami, Dorthe conceived of the piece as a simple manipulation of a versatile material-five bends forming the pentagonal silhouette that gives the piece its name.
The material chosen by Dorthe to effect this manipulation is simple black matte acrylic-resilient enough to undergo the requisite bends, attractive enough to draw admiration, elusive enough to proffer a bit of mystery.
In truth, the mystery embodied by the piece comes courtesy of its perforated sides, which allow the light to escape in a diffuse pattern-evoking foggy nights illumined by enshadowed street lamps.
Dorthe also offers the Penta Lamp in laminated wood. For specifying information, you may contact him via Etsy.
