David Weeks has introduced a limited edition of his Semana chair in leather and a new cement and brass lighting collection.

Fenta is a sculptural floor and table lamp design that uses a wood pin to hold the gently curved brass armature to the sturdy cement base. The name ‘Fenta’ is derived from the French word ‘fente’ meaning slot, which refers to the multiple slots in the lamp’s cement base, was custom cast in upstate NY. Because the cement shrinks as it dries, changing the original size and shape of the holes, this element of the design that was was particularly challenging to produce.

In addition, the Fenta collection marks the first time that Weeks has used brass as the standard metal for a design – something he sees as a natural development having previously worked with precious metal during his time as a jeweler for Ted Muehling.

For the limited Semana Chair, Weeks reached out to an old friend in Marfa who makes leather sandals. His friend took the chair to Big Bend Saddlery, the longest continuously operating saddlery in West Texas, where they produced the sling in 1/8-of-an-inch-thick tanned saddle leather to give the design extra resilience, pliability and more structure.
