This year in Milan, designers showed us a full spectrum of color, often in the same piece. Though bright monochromatic pieces are ever popular, the fair was alive with bold combinations of pattern and poppy colors:

Marbellous Wood – Refraction by Snedker Studio: Both the form of these floorboards and the pattern painted on them are inspired by the refraction of light through a prism. Each pattern is unique and formed with a marbleizing process based on a technique used to produce early book covers. www.snedkerstudio.dk

Neverland Rug by Reuber Henning: Shown in the DMY Trails exhibition of Berlin designers, the new rug series is a departure from previous neutral and monochromatic rugs. The striped wool rug series includes various “lands”-Hopeland, Ghostland, Heartland-all handmade in Nepal and available in several sizes. www.reuberhenning.de

Circus Sideboard by Studio Roso: Designed by Sophie Nielsen and Rolf Knudsen, the sideboard has dual layers that flip when doors are moved, resulting in a change of color and pattern. Watch a video of the piece in action here. www.studio-roso.com

Isla rug and Kogi lamps by Studio Joa Herrenknecht: The Berlin-based designer made a bold showing in Milan with his Isla rug, a brightly colored surface of triangles and squares. Created out of light Tyvek modules, the geometric Kogi lamps add another pop to the collection with a selection of ombre-neon colors. www.joa-herrenknecht.com

Neocraft by Frances Norris: Shown at Milan’s MOST exhibit, the print designer’s work investigates themes of “Humanizing the Machine”-using machines to create products that look handmade-with a series of brightly etched glass tiles. www.francesnorris.com
