KnollTextiles Introduces the Elements Collection
have unveiled their first collection launch of 2013. Called Elements, the collection features five upholsteries, two draperies and three vinyls and woven performance wallcoverings. However, it’s the three original upholstery designs by KnollTextiles Creative Director Dorothy Cosonas, including Ikat Square, that steal the show.
The Ikat Square, Ikat Stripe, and Origins designs are all inspired by the classic ikat concept.
For those unfamiliar with the technique, Ikat comes from the Malaysian word "Mengikat," meaning to tie or knot. It is a term used to describe the intricate and labor intensive process of binding and dying sections of yarn, then weaving them together to create fabric with multi-colored tones. Cosonas combined this motif with various patterns from Japanese textile books to create these striking large scale patterns, colors and textures.
As well as the three Ikat-inspired upholstery designs by Cosonas, Elements also includes vinyl and woven performance wallcovering. Landscape is a vinyl wallcovering that looks like a faux silk, and Posture is a vinyl that features a light embossing, creating a sophisticated all-over texture. Akita, the third wallcovering in this collection, is a woven mixture of matte and lustrous yarns.
Two KT Collection upholsteries, Synth and Versa, and two draperies, Suspend and Token, complete the collection.
