Those of us who spend the majority of the day behind a desk are constantly being reminded of the health benefits of taking breaks and moving around the office to avoid back pain and to enhance circulation. To help develop this healthy habit, designer Antonio Citterio has developed the Pivot high working chair and the Ad Hoc High Work tables for Swiss design brand Vitra. The designs encourage movement by allowing workers to easily switch between standing and sitting while at their desks.

The new products promote a healthy mix between standing and sitting in the office environment

13" higher than a standard office swivel chair, Pivot  is designed for use with high standing tables. Users can either sit on Pivot or hop off to lean against it while standing at the table. This ease of movement encourages teamwork within the office space by allowing quick meetings to be held at eye level with passing colleagues. The height-adjustable one-piece seat is covered with knotted fabric and the slip resistant polyamide foot ring is also height adjustable for additional comfort. Citterio has cleverly packaged all of these ergonomic functions into Pivot’s simple, streamlined form.

A new addition to the ever increasing family of Ad Hoc office systems by Citterio for Vitra, the Ad Hoc High Work table is a perfect partner for Pivot. This new table is designed for dynamic working both while standing and, in conjunction with a high office chair, while sitting. Set at a fixed table height of 41", the Ad Hoc High Work facilitates focused discussions at eye level - even if some participants are standing while others are sitting. The design is of course completely compatible with the existing Ad Hoc system.

Both designs will be launched at this year’s edition of Orgatec, from October 23 -27, 2012 in Cologne, Germany.

About the designer: Antonio Citterio is an Italian furniture designer and industrial designer who lives and works in Milan. Citterio graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and since 1972 has worked for many leading manufacturers and completed many architectural and interiors projects around the world. He is also the designer and coordinator of Maxalto, a well known B&B Italia brand. He has won many prizes, among which the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1987 and 1995. His products are part of the MoMA permanent collection and the Centre_Georges-Pompidou in Paris.
