I’ve heard it said that painting can have a “warming” influence. That sculpture, for instance, can enhance the brightness of a space. Some claim, in fact, that art in general can improve the ambient atmosphere. Far be it for me to quibble with these figurative assessments of how imaginative adornments can make a room more inviting,  though I will assert that Caleido’s collection of Art Radiators by Karim Rashid has it both ways–the heat they bring is literal as well as figurative.

Karim Rashid’s Art Radiators Brighten Up Walls and Warm Up Bodies

The notion is simple enough: make a fundamental feature of residential infrastructure an artistic adornment as well. It sort of reminds me of the old “function is form” credo, though in this case the form comes first and the function is cleverly, seamlessly integrated within.

In fact, to look at any one of Rashid’s seven different varieties of Art Radiators is to simply admire interesting art. The fact that they each emit a pleasing, even, and energy-efficient heat is simply the icing on the proverbial cake.
