The Rewrite Desk by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset
In a flurry of excitement I report on the 2011 version of the Rewrite desk for the educational or home office environments. Put into production by Ligne Roset this year – with its release in Cologne in January – Copenhagen’s GamFratesi designers had produced their award-winning original prototype back in 2009. After seeing the design unchanged just two years later, many of us – who value efficient working spaces wherever they may be – are ecstatic to see its rerelease into the education and office market.

Blocking Out Light and Sound, the Rewrite Desk by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset is a Private Workspace.
With a cave-like half dome and a solid walnut base, the Rewrite desk’s unique fiberglass top is covered in foam and woolen upholstery. “The idea behind Rewrite began as a study of the desktop and especially an atmosphere and feeling we believe is needed even in the middle of an accelerating communication and technology,” reflects GamFratesi in a statement about the then prototype phase two years ago, “Rewrite is thought of as a kind of isolating working bubble, that can work as a satellite desk anywhere one can feel the need of concentration and shielding – in open space offices, public spaces or at home.”
“With its rounded shape it can be placed freely as dots in a room… The table is therefore traditional in its form and material, but when the big screen is added, both proportions and historical references are brought out of balance.” A slit in the back of the table can be used to house the ugly technology cables and at the same time, other loose wires and laptop gadgets can be placed within a lacquered steel container underneath the desk.
Simple lines and a light, airy curved top create a private space for working within the Rewrite desk by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset that will soon dot the luckiest of educational areas and home offices around the world.
About the Designer: GamFratesi is a design agency which was founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. This Italian-Danish coupling brings together two gifted European design traditions: a magical union between Southern and Northern design. And the result: the Rewrite desk, designed like a bubble, a little jewel of modernity and softness.
