The BOB Armchair by Hella Jongerius for Kettal
Designer Hella Jongerius has been known to fuse the modern with the craft. It’s sort of “her thing”. As a master of clean, simple furnishings, its no wonder they have found their way into the showrooms of Vitra, Maharam, and Royal Tichelaar Makkum – making her a go-to artist of furniture for Kettal with her recent design of an armchair she calls BOB.
The BOB Armchair. Designed by Hella Jongerius. Manufactured by Kettal.
A “Reinterpretation of the Typical Garden Club Chair” is how Kettal describes BOB: The Modern Armchair by Hella Jongerius.
“Designer Hella Jongerius delights in often unexpected combinations and contrasts of material choices,” begins the Dwell product description, adding “as such, it’s no surprise that the Dutch master craftswoman complimented this aluminum-and-polyester seat with yarn wound around the armrests.”
The seating uses of soft ribs with visible stitching to create what Kettal describes as a “reinterpretationof the typical garden club chair”. Its silver aluminum frame looks thick and heavy, with a comfortable base not found in many modern furnishings from the front. But upon viewing the BOB from the back, its structure takes on a more delicate look – detailed with interesteding armrests and handles on the matching footstool and side table.
Kettal’s prestige as a high quality furniture manufacturer is only matched by their beautiful website that I must say, made me appreciate the art of tech savvy and intuitive designers. The same idea follows suit in the natural way that Jongerius’ BOB Armchair works beautifully into any interior space.
