The Letterpress Rug by Liora Manné for CB2
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture by Gary Hustwit that sparked the design scene when I was living in San Francisco a few years ago. I remember numerous conversations about the film that seemed to thrill anyone who had practiced their signature as a child, regardless of their current occupation. Liora Manné used the artistic beauty of letters to create the Letterpress rug for CB2 that acts as another tribute to typeface.

Stylized Lettering on Your Floor (That is Not Elementary): The Letterpress Rug Designed by Liora Manné for CB2 is in a Modern Class of Its Own.
Known for her high end textile and fashion designs, Liora Manné used a specially developed method she calls Lamontage® to create the Letterpress rug. It structures acrylic fibers in an intricate fashion by hand and then mechanically interlocks them with needle-punching to create a nonwoven textile. Said to be “based on the idea of versatility” Manné’s Lamontagne textiles are said to “break the boundaries of traditional textiles, creating a unique textile with unlimited possibilities.”
On the Letterpress rug, her Lamontage® method allows for a flat techno felt of saturated hues of orange, black, yellow, grey and silver-tone letters. Its patterns and overall texture are marked by what looks like a ransom note on cement, says the product’s description on CB2. Recommended for use with a rug saver pad, the indoor/outdoor, UV-treated 100% acrylic pile is easily cleaned with a mop, soap, and water. To make the design even more lovable, it can be cut and fit into the tightest of spaces without unraveling.
Whether you’re a Helvetica fan or you lean serif-style, the warm tones and relaxed template of the Letterpress pulls it all together from font to backing.
