Live at #NeoCon10: The Allay Sleep Sofa by Wieland
A quarter century ago my father would have done anything for Wieland‘s latest addition shown at NeoCon this week. For any others who get squeamish at hospitals (like when my mom was in labor with twins) or if you prefer the “just in case” cushioned landing when the needle comes out, meet Allay – your new best friend.
Wieland’s booth at #Neocon10.
Allay may not directly challenge the exquisite styling of Patricia Urquiola’s Canasta sofa or the sweeping curve of Zaha Hadid’s Moon System, but it already knows this. Instead of taking away from the important events surrounding it, the Allay blends in with its neutral color and straight lines. What is important to note about the design of this sleep sofa is the functional aspect that can be incorporated perfectly into the high traffic, health care areas that require lasting furniture with a high degree of comfort. In fact, Allay comes with a huge 25 year warranty with a 10 year warranty on mechanisms and a 2 year warranty on drawer glides.
There are a few different versions of the sleep sofa to choose from. Although all of the major components remain the same across the board, there are slight variations in the arm fabrication – a soft top, upholstered arm with a cap, or recessed arm with cap. There is also the choice to do an upholstered panel or wood panel on the flanks of the couch. Lastly, and probably the biggest difference, is the option for a drawer and dual foot slides.
All of the Allay sleep sofas come with an angled seat, a contour back, access to the in between area between the seat and back designed for easy cleaning, and a integrated pull handle (resembling that of your college futon) that makes the transition from sofa to sleep (or faint) a cinch.
As Wieland says about their latest addition, “Allay is the perfect union of function and fashion for the patient room”. I think my Dad and I would agree: it’s aesthetic simplicity, with cushions providing comfortable seating and resting, are exactly what you need when your overall health is in mind.
