The Volage EX-S Night Wood bed designed by Philippe Starck for Cassina will let everyone—including the perpetually indecisive—rest easy. A majestic bed with integrated nightstands and lighting, Starck’s fabulous piece seems like its own self-contained universe.

The luxurious Volage EX-S Night Wood invites sleepers to enter a world of Starck’s own making, complete with everything one might need to rest, relax, and dream. Available in three types of wood—mahogany, polished ebony, and matte sycamore—this bed eliminates design conundrums altogether.

The large bed features built-in lights made of cast-aluminum bar and fabric lampshades. These include a small dimmable LED spotlight “that can be aimed at will.” I assume this light is meant to illuminate reading material (but do what you will). Floating bedside tables come topped in marble and include a convenient drawer. And the headboard is equipped with two electrical sockets or USB ports.

Cassina explains some of Starck’s design details: “Volage EX-S Night Wood echoes the aesthetic and saddlery details of the Somewhere EL-S Collection, like the ivory-colour stitching and thick grainy leather that clads the bedframe.”

Leather, wood, and marble—the bed offers so much material opulence than one might forget its practicality!
