Meet the Flintstones: Melt Entry Table by Arteriors x Workshop/APD
Anyone who remembers the Stone Age cartoon classic will appreciate Melt Entry Table, which would definitely be at home inside The Flintstones. In fact, it would definitely give Fred and Wilma Flintstone something to brag about!
The new entry table is part of the second collaboration between Arteriors and Workshop/APD. With a substantial base and marble top, Melt Entry Table continues the monolithic stone trend that began at the first post-COVID Salone del Mobile.
The design world had a near-universal reaction to the impermanence of life—in the form of substantial stone products. These, dare I say mammoth, furniture pieces seem to have emanated straight from our primordial desire to survive. We saw large, organic, immovable seating, tables, sinks, and bathtubs. The Arteriors x Workshop/APD Collection reimagines this prehistoric trend—by infusing stone with a sense of lightness.
The base of Melt Entry Table features two tapering pieces of limewashed wood separated by a marble capsule that appears to be floating inside the negative space between the wood elements. This empty expanse may put you in mind of a wishbone, which may bring up the fanciful and exaggerated bone shapes that played a large roll in The Flintstones (see below).
Melt Entry Table gives stone and bone a weightless quality, thanks to its “intentional vertical reveal.” Workshop/APD’s Melt products are part of their 25-piece collection for the 188-piece Arteriors Fall 2024 Collection. Workshop/APD beautifully explains Melt “explores seemingly molten forms in glass, wood, stone, and metal, evoking the interplay of ice and lava.” Prehistoric indeed.
