Meow Modules: Bubbles by Ricardo Sá
Portuguese product designer and beloved cat-person (I’m guessing due to his many furniture designs for felines), Ricardo Sá created Bubbles to improve “the human-cat relationship.”
Bubbles are modular pieces constructed of bended plywood, cane, and fabric. The concept is simple: answer the call of the cat! According to Sá, they want “high spots, holes, and ‘hidden’ places where they can see us and they think we don’t see them.”
Given that I had an anxiety attack when trying to buy a cat tree at a pet store (a horrid artless mass of beige carpet and twine), I love Bubbles. The simple forms, modular nature, and natural materials redefine cat furniture.
Plus, Bubbles features creative details for people and their cats. Align the holes so cats can travel from one module to another. Hang the storage units close to human fingertips “for placing daily goods,” Sá suggests.
Optional pieces like wall pegs and little shelves can be flat-packed into a convenient cylinder for easy shipping. Bubbles is the cat’s meow!
