Allure O’ and Flair O’ at Casa Italia
Approaching the terminus of the labrynthine layout of rooms and passages within the second floor of Casa Italia—which is simultaneously the most extravagant of housing for Olympic athletes and a carefully curated design experience commemorating the history of the Olympics and of France—one encounters the “Meeting Room,” an airy, oval-shaped space of pastel-tinted walls ringed with decorative Louis XIV-style mouldings with the color and texture of the most delicate of Parisian confections. Smack in the center is the piece de resistance: an oversize version of Monica Armani’s Allure O’ Table, surrounded by a diplomatic assortment of Flair O’ Chairs, both in a sunny, mustardy shade of yellow.
Conceived of as an homage to Jackie O—with particular regard to her trademark over-sized sunglasses—Allure O’ and Flair O’ represent unabashed 60s glamour: “Shapely lines, curves in all the right places, volume, scale, and balance… a contemporary celebration of 60s style, unadorned sculpture, and functional design.”
In the context of Casa Italia, the formidable glossy table and its legion of lovely accompanying chairs evoke the eclecticism found throughout the space: a consortium of art and design peopled by works of such diverse luminaries as Robert Ingersoll, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Patricia Urquiola, and Ron Arad, just to name a few. Allure O’ and Flair O’ seem right at home among them.
The Allure O’ Table features a glossy oval-shaped top with beveled edges and a truncated pyramid base. Sitting on the same conical-shaped structure as the table, Flair O’ is an upholstered chair with a swivel feature and automatic return mechanism. Both are available in multiple colors.
