NYCxDesign 2024: Neo-Narcissist Mirror by Hartis & Crina Arghirescu Rogard Architecture

Perhaps an apt reflection of contemporary life, the Neo-Narcissist Mirror brings up a well of metaphorical questions about self-love. The unique mirror by Hartis and Crina Arghirescu Rogard Architecture is a finalist in the Accessories category for a NYCXDesign 2024 Award.

Neo-Narcissist Mirror

Hartis, the furniture brand bringing Neo-Narcissist Mirror to life, puts a poetic spin on narcissism. “Come fall in love with your own reflection! It invites us to consider our mood, not just our reflection, suggesting an identity stripped of preconceived notions of beauty, masculinity or femininity,” @hartisofficial writes.

Neo-Narcissist Mirror

Sculptural and layered, the Neo-Narcissist Mirror seems to suggest that self-love is imperfect. An ovoid antique-finished mirror gives way to leather pieces. Whatever reflection is in the mirror gets eaten by the surrounding black form, which resembles something geologic. Is it saying we need to see ourselves as a small part of a larger universe?

Neo-Narcissist Mirror

Interpretations will abound, given the Neo-Narcissist Mirror’s name and sculptural form. Put it in your foyer and wait for everyone to look at it—maybe as much as they look at themselves.
