The maximalist UK design studio known as House of Hackney reinterprets classic William Morris designs in wallpaper (and coordinating fabric). Five of their favorites cover the interiors at the 1808 Quercus Lodge: Blackthorn, Golden Lily, Plantasia, Quercus, and Woodstock.

The Quercus Lodge is located on the grounds of the historic Castle of Trematon, which was built in 1060 by the Count of Mortain. Since the property is now owned by House of Hackney founders, Frieda and Javvy, they’ve created lavish floral interiors using their brand’s designs. The Quercus Lodge features interiors that are “a love letter to William Morris.”

Blackthorn virtually oozes British charm with its Arts & Crafts swirls and blooms. A reinterpretation of a William Morris design, Blackthorn adds pops of pink and red (and even some hidden skulls).

Inspired by Morris’ Acorn print, Quercus features an oak leaf design. In deep gold Auric, it turns walls into a walk in the autumn woods. Another wallpaper based on a Morris design, Golden Lily comes in four colors, including the calming Sky, which was used in the bathroom at Quercus Lodge.

Two House of Hackney originals—Woodstock and Plantasia—also grace the walls of the historic lodge. Woodstock was created especially for House of Hackney by American artist Kerry Simmons. It incorporates beautiful blooms in many colors. Plantasia in Prism features graceful trees in an idyllic landscape, as well as a surprise. A solitary “green-queen” is hidden in every roll—can you find her?

House of Hackney co-founder Frieda encapsulates the spirit of Quercus Lodge: “We wanted the lodge to be rustic and simple, yet otherworldly, as its fairytale setting within the castle walls is just that.”
