Launching at this week’s Clerkenwell Design Festival in the UK, the new ‘Taper’ faucets have been designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, founder and head of the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), for American luxury bathroom brand, Kallista.

BIG’s first collaboration in the home interiors industry, the Taper Collection is a gracefully minimalist selection of plumbing pieces that take their design cues from the principles of classic Mid-Century Danish design

In a style that Ingels describes as ‘a lot of character without excess’, forms are stripped down to their most elemental essence. ‘The sculpted shape of Taper translates from the geometry of the pipe and sculpts the flow of water to the hands or body,’ describes Ingels.

The faucet has an austere, forward-leaning profile, and the unique 90-degree bend in the faucets and lever handles slyly references the stark geometry of the pipes behind the walls. The faucet spout is designed with a spout tip that is uniquely flush with the faucet; the aerator is in the base where it can't be seen by the user, while the toilet paper holder cleverly opens and closes via a magnetic arm.

Taper by BIG includes two bathroom basin sets which meet the flow, force and coverage mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency to be WaterSense® listed with a 1.5 gpm laminar flow aerator.

The wall-mounted bath spout has an 8 ¾" reach as well as a deck-mount bath set with integrated diverter that accommodates a handshower vertically, a first for Kallista, resulting in a much cleaner, uncluttered look.

The Taper designs extend into the shower with a wall-mount arm at 14 ¼" reach that can be fitted with a number of Kallista raindomes and a Multifunction showerhead with forged arm reaching 9 ¾". Rounding out the showering components is a thermostatic control, a three-way transfer valve, and a volume control, with a pressure balance control.

Five accessory pieces complete the collection: 24-inch, 18-inch and 12-inch towel bars, a hook, and a toilet paper holder with straightforward magnetic arm.

Taper by BIG is available in three Kallista finishes: Chrome, Nickel Silver, and Brushed Nickel, but can also be ordered in nine additional specialty finishes - Gunmetal, Black Nickel, Bronze, Antique Bronze, Weathered Bronze, Polished Gold, Matte Gold, Antique Silver, and Sterling Silver - to give customers multiple options to customize their own look.
