Urquiola’s Untold Treasures
We’ve covered more work by the iconic Patricia Urquiola than I care to count (actually, most recent tally is 37 articles).

Even so, we’ve missed a few along the way, a wrong we’d like to right—right now, with brief profiles of three impactful Urquiola designs, here in the heart of Women’s History Month.

First up, as seen in the above photos, is Rotazioni for CC Tapis. This clever gamesmanship engages the enduring intricacies of the cylinder. Rotazioni (translated as “Rotations”) abuts and overlays pastel-colored versions of the shape for “a scale of chromatic contrasts that insinuates the gradient on the surface of the cylinders creating a three-dimensional effect…”

Smock, for Moroso, is a casual lounge chair whose essence is defined by the drape of its loosely fitted fabric.

This is a chair that wears its adornment like a model on a runway, the tufted threads along its edges pinching it together in just the right places.

And here’s the sublime Shimmer Table for Glas Italia.

Featuring an iridescent multi-chromatic finish, Shimmer revels in the juxtaposition of geometric forms (very like Rotazioni) while taking aim at bending light: “the nuance varies according to the angle of the light source and the vantage point… Reflected objects with a magical and ethereal appearance emerge.”
