Pulchritude and Luminosity: Chemise for Artemest
We’ve tiptoed up the color scale from last week’s reds and pinks to arrive at purple—our theme of he week and a shade worn well by Chemise, a sumptuous armchair designed by Studio Li_Do for Artemest.

If purple is the color of royalty, Chemise is fit for a queen. The woman’s undergarment, which historically had a utilitarian function, has since evolved to invoke a more risqué kind of experience. The Chemise armchair certainly evokes the latter.

Whether in royal scarlet or the nicely contrasted maroon and heather gray shown above, Chemise is encompassing and inviting. The tall backrest offers a sheltering aspect, beckoning users to curl up with a book or a cognac or just headphones tuned to Billie Holiday.

There’s a nice interplay of materials happening here too. Made of a wooden frame with polyurethane foam and polyester padding, Chemise features a lacquered steel ring above the base, suggesting the innate cinch of the garment where hips meet abdomen.

If you’re in the market, contact Artemest. The Milan-based company will handcraft your very own Chemise in whichever color you desire, shade of purple or otherwise…
