Designer Karim Rashid takes advantage of the color purple in his King and Queen Vases for Purho.

The King and Queen vases combine two design giants: Karim Rashid and Murano glass. Rashid is one of the most prolific industrial designers in the world today, having designed everything from buildings and kitchen tools to furniture and packaging. And Murano glass has been at the forefront of handblown glass for centuries. Murano differs from other glass because it remains in liquid form for a longer time, giving the artist the opportunity to design a unique work of art.

These vases, with only two colors, make a strong visual statement. The QUEEN vase with its ovoid top evokes the feeling of a crown, while the body of the KING vase suggests longevity and strength. The vases measure 11.8″ H and 7.4” D. Use them to display a single flower, lending authority and regality to that bloom. Besides the gorgeous Florence Purple, Purho glass colors include Geranium, Amethyst Pink, and many others hues in every color family.

Founded by Andrea Dotto in 2012, Purho combines traditional Murano glass-making with contemporary designs. “Mixing the poetic and ethereal quality of glass with clean silhouettes that are at times rigorously geometric and at times ethereal and fluid, the master glassmakers at Purho create unique objects of functional décor where color stands out in 21 intense hues,” the company notes.
