A Technicolor Moon on Vinyl

A Technicolor Moon on Vinyl

Digital Artist Joseph Prat Sorolla gives us something to think about in these early days of the New Year with Vinyl Moon Vol. 109, design and artwork for an album by the band of the same name.

Vinyl Moon close up

This is an intensely colored and very vivid image that feels phantasmagoric. Discernible themes/motifs herein include colored pencils, teeth, pinching fingers, candy-esque sunflowers, arcing dolphins, and—front and center—an oscillating iris.

Album cover with eye

Sorolla uses lenticular printing to create the illusion of motion and depth. In this case, tilting the artwork makes the eye change from tear-laden to housing the phenomena of an exploding cosmos.

Vinyl Moon eye as planetary explosion

The album itself features a deep sea-green shade, reminiscent of the blood red vinyl I remember from 70s mainstays Boston and Kansas.
