The Creation by Lucent Design is a dazzling installation featuring 20,000 suspended acrylic spheres illuminated to evoke the origins of the universe.

What appears to be a galaxy of wonder is in fact dynamic lighting in three scenes: “Birth,” “Shine,” and “Vortex.” The installation is surrounded by 12 projection units.

Lights flicker, merge, and morph before your very eyes. They ripple, weave, and sparkle. This density of dots is proof there are many ways to see the world.

The Creation is an origin story. It’s meant to tell the tale of the universe at the dawn of time. It’s equally inspired by the parallel experience of creative energy itself, the joyful exuberance of getting a good idea and starting to see it through.

The structure is held together by extremely thin wires. Designer Takahiro Matsuo was careful to choose an almost invisible width so wires would not cast a single shadow.

The Creation appears to be its own world, its own unique galaxy. We see not blue spheres, but stellar remnants and interstellar gas and the golden floating light that exists in the deep realm of outer space. Especially in movement, it’s an otherworldly sight to behold.

Perhaps The Creation is even more stunning because we’re not seeing it out the window of a space capsule. We didn’t have to take a rocketship to get there. We get to see it here on earth, our feet firmly planted on the ground.
