Of Abstractions and Mechanical Machinations
Danielle Tegeder’s art has roots in her family’s lineage as union steamfitters.
Always privy to blueprints and mechanical drawings, Tegeder expresses her immersion into these intricate maze-like maps of knowledge with architectural abstractions of form, color, and line.
Tegeder’s work reminds me of the notion of the Rube Goldberg contraption—of clever “thinga ma jiggers” whose function remains mysterious, perhaps even arcane, yet compel fascination even so.
The art also evokes the idea of the underground. I see a resemblance to the films of French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, whose sets evoke a post-apocalyptic re-capitulation of the city.
Tegeder’s work is currently on exhibit at Standard Space. Media at the show include linen, walnut, and mobiles.
