Royal Thai and textile designer Ploenchan “Mook” Vinyaratn collaborated to create an impressive wall of textiles at BDNY.

No surprise, this tower of tantalizing textures—dubbed “Tactile Vernacular” took home best of show for hand-tufted textiles.

Though designed by Mook, Tactile Vernacular was hardly a solo effort. Created using 100% re-purposed yarn, the vertical display took over 450 hours and required the assistance of more than 50 weavers and artisans.

Tactile Vernacular is a comprehensive articulation of colors and shapes, textures and tones. The collision and combination of different styles creates a feast for the senses, inspiring attendees to an immersive tactile exploration.

Under the brand “Beyond Living,” Mook makes hand-made textiles sourced and produced in Thailand: “blending innovative materials and techniques, she’s acclaimed for helping usher in a new era of Thai textiles.”
