BDNY 2024: Kasthall’s Birds of a Feather
Kasthall has been crafting premium rugs since 1889. This year at BDNY 2024 Kasthall displayed Feather and VICHY.
Feather is a hand-tufted bouclé rug of pure wool and linen designed by Ellinor Eliasson. She studied at The Swedish School of Textile University of Borås and joined the Kasthall team in 2015.
This hand-tufted rug was originally inspired by birds’ different plumages. Now, Feather flies in five new lively colorways further inspired by bird life: Blue Jay, Parakeet, Hoopoe, Nuthatch, and Sparrow.
Lena Jiseborn, Head of Design at Kasthall, says, “Feather radiates sophistication and a hint of fun. The ‘feather boa’ framing the rug makes it an ideal centerpiece in any interior design scheme.”
The rug is 60% wool and 40% linen, the only two materials Kasthall uses in their products. The wool offers a muted tone while the linen provides a touch of avian translucence. Feather comes in a rectangular or circular shape.
Kasthall also had VICHY on display at BDNY 2024. VICHY is a timeless yet contemporary celebration of the classic checkered pattern known as gingham. This woven rug is made of pure wool.
VICHY’s color palette emulates playfulness amidst sophistication—especially that cotton candy-looking Raspberry Blue—making it perfect for any modern living space.
Kasthall was established in 1889 in Kinna, Sweden, where all of their products are still produced today. As a brand, Kasthall’s main ethos is longevity. All of their rugs are made to last a lifetime or longer. At BDNY 2024 I learned Kasthall rugs are considered heirlooms in Sweden.
I also learned each of their premium rugs is made to order, so no natural resources are wasted, as they say, “on excess production or products that will never touch a floor.”
Kasthall has flagship stores in Stockholm, Malmö, Milan, and New York.
