Sweet Dreams: Vallée Blanche Chaise Lounge by Pierre Guariche at Ligne Roset
Who wouldn’t want to fall asleep in the Vallée Blanche Chaise Lounge? It’s no accident if its curves and color put you mind of mountains covered in fresh snowfall as architect/designer Pierre Guariche created the chaise in 1963 for the La Plagne Ski Resort in the French Alps.
With a textile cover and chromed metal base, Vallée Blanche Chaise Lounge is a Modernist vision. A simple curve accommodates the human body—and its own silhouette commands attention. With notes of Mid-Century futurism, the Vallée chaise looks like it traveled straight from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Thanks to Ligne Roset, the architect’s furniture and lighting are being reissued as Pierre Guariche éditions. Ligne Roset designer Jean-Marc Villiers explains the importance of this collection: “Pierre Guariche has an excellent image in the academic and design communities but unfortunately has been somewhat forgotten, wrongly. It was important to me that we (re)discover him in a quality of workmanship in line with his vision and his love of detail.”
Vallée Blanche Chaise Lounge is like a siren calling people to relax and fantasize—or fall asleep and dream of sheep.
