Thirdspace Ergonomics: Sedeo Stool by Humanscale

Thirdspace Ergonomics: Sedeo Stool by Humanscale

What are thirdspaces? The oft-neglected areas where people like to work, such as break rooms, open offices, huddle rooms, and hallways. They go beyond the desk, so to speak—and Humanscale wants workers to be supported wherever they end up meeting or typing. Say hello to the Sedeo Stool, which is part of the company’s “Ergonomics Everywhere” initiative.

Inspired by the iconic designs of Wegner, Eames, and Nelson, Sedeo Stool offers a contoured seat with a wavelike silhouette. The creation of Don Chadwick, Sedeo offers comfort for anyone working at counter-height surfaces.

According to Chadwick, “The design intent for the Sedeo Stool was conceived as a lightly scaled, ergonomic seating solution. The contours of the seat shell are the result of essential sacral support encouraging proper posture.”

And it does all this ergonomic work without being obvious about it. Sedeo Stool is like a sleight of hand: it seems merely aesthetically pleasing while secreting the body-positive research that enabled its design. That sinuous seat looks great from any angle, as if Sedeo’s only consideration were aesthetics.

Path is another ergonomic wonder for workers.
