Sereno Storage Collection by Joel Escalona for NONO
Joel Escalona, a designer from Mexico City, grew up in the 90s, influenced by his creative parents and the studies he undertook that coalesced into his art and designs of today. Contemporary art, photography, writing, and poetry fueled his creativity, alongside the rich diversity of Mexico’s social and cultural fabric. His Sereno Storage Collection works for commercial spaces like lounges and restaurants, as well as residential settings.
Escalona conceives of his work in his sketch book, which inspires him to test, elaborate, and ultimately create. He believes in fusing the natural with technological advances, producing designs that balance aesthetic appeal with utility.
Sereno Console Table 01
The Sereno Collection for NONO features console tables that function primarily as art, providing an interesting backdrop for walls and inviting viewers to relax in a quiet space. Sereno Console Table 01 incorporates two organically shaped wooden stones that balance in silence, inviting the contemplation of each part and the piece as a whole.
Sereno Console Table 08
In contrast, Sereno Console Table 08, offers more practical storage with two-thirds of the shelves backed by wood. This iteration holds books and files securely, while the ends of its shelves are open, lending themselves to the display of art such as small sculptures, bowls, and wood artifacts. Its storage works equally well in home libraries, hotel lobbies, and office spaces.
Sereno Console Table 18
Sereno Console Table 18 is more sculptural. Its bottom shelves feature large wooden balls. The linear surfaces and spherical objects evoke storage racks in a bowling alley—for an esoteric rendering of a dynamic element.
Sereno Storage comes in solid wood or veneers and lacquers.
