Maison & Objet 2024: Inflated Ass by Yoomoota
Whether they know it or not, those attending Maison&Objet this week in Paris have simultaneously secured a round-trip ticket to the Yoomoota Universe, a “dreamlike inner world of mankind that embodies various phenomena of life” and the creative download from Taras Yoom.
There are at least 23 planets in the Yoomoota Universe, and Inflated Ass—an inflated predatory “flycatcher” plant—is one such creature that hails (and ensnares!) from the Planet of Paradise.
Words of warning: “It is advised not to tame or sit on them, as doing so may result in becoming trapped in an eternal state of pleasure.”
Yoom further explains, “Once a person sits on it, they become inseparable from the chair. In these moments, the individual and the Inflated Ass become one entity, capable of both draining the person’s energy and nourishing them. […] Those desiring to have such a plant in their home must exercise self-discipline and patience to resist its charms.”
Before Yoom was the architect of Yoomoota, he had a medical education background and was studying to become a pediatrician. This may explain the inspo for some of Yoomoota’s supporting characters, such as Candy Lady (who stands in for sugar addiction) and Pillman (who symbolizes pill addiction).
Inflated Ass is made of metal, PU, felt, and fabric. The robin’s egg blue and lamb’s-ear green felt is made by hand from Italian wool.
In 2023, Inflated Ass was a Good Design Award winner.
