Based in Como, Italy, Draga & Aurel have explored color from diverse lenses. Flare IX and Flare X, new side tables available through Todd Merrill Studio, illustrate the pair’s artistic approach to design. Is it furniture or is art? With this design duo, it’s always both.

Flare IX and Flare X tables continue the designers’ study of color. Their influences include “Minimalism’s simplified volumes, retro-futuristic experimentation of Space Age design and the eye-bending patterns of Optical Art.”

In 2024, Draga & Aurel pushed their process further by introducing Lucite into their epoxy resin techniques: “By strategically combining colored Lucite sheets of varying shapes and thicknesses, they achieved a mesmerizing spectrum of hues,” explains Todd Merrill Studio.

Flare IX and Flare X exploit the nature of refraction. Layers of color investigate how we see and experience light.
