NeoCon 2024 Preview: Mews by Boss Design
UK brand Boss Design will focus on the shifting work landscape by presenting Mews at NeoCon 2024. The Mews Collection marks a paradigm shift in office design. Boss explains, “We used to rely on architectural intervention to divide spaces and define privacy, the new workplace landscape has shifted to habitable spaces with high levels of function and flexibility.”
But what is mews? The word, which may be more common across the pond, is not known to everyone. According to Cambridge Dictionary, a mews is “a building that was used in the past for keeping horses and is now used as a house.” Mews also refers to a short narrow street. Sometimes, as with Washington Mews in New York City, the Mews is gated (it’s right by Washington Square Park and worth a stroll).
For Boss Design, Mews is all about changing office philosophy: “We believe in more—better spaces that not only work well but make us feel good too.” The Mews Collection includes Mews Collaborate, Mews Connect, Mews Dial, and Mews Focus. All of these consider ergonomics, air quality, temperature, and lighting. Despite those die-hard old-school management types who don’t understand why joy matters, happiness at work increases productivity—and ROI! (Please don’t make us review this again)!
Aesthetic appeal also increases happiness at work, which is good news for Mews. Built-in soft lighting (it’s even designed to flatter faces on video conferencing), black metal frames, acoustical control, glass panels, minimalist coat hooks, sleek handles, high-quality upholstery, and so much more make Mews welcoming. I would definitely go into the office if it had Mews!
