ICFF 2024: The Aerial Series by Warp & Weft
The Aerial Series—Aerial 1, Aerial 2, and Aerial 3—by Warp & Weft will be unveiled to the public for the first time today at ICFF at the Javits Center in New York. This new collection of hand-knotted carpets is on view at Warp & Weft’s Booth #1011 through May 23, 2024.
Aerial 1, Aerial 2, and Aerial 3 (as seen above) is a trio of unique and harmonious carpets made of wool and silk. They are produced by Warp & Weft, the boutique custom rug and carpet studio, in collaboration with Gabellini Sheppard, the New York City-based architecture and interior design studio. Each rug is based on original artwork by Tomoko Hirose, Senior Interior Designer at Gabellini Sheppard.
Deceptively calm, yet technically complex, the Aerial Series evokes a sublime intrinsic beauty. The variegated texture in the rug’s weave matches up with every pencil stroke in Tomoko Hirose’s atmospheric drawings.
These carpets evoke the ephemeral beauty of water and atmospheric light. They represent natural, infinite landscapes, abstract spaces without borders, and places of tranquil beauty.
The Aerial Series is the most intricate carpet collection Warp & Weft has ever produced. “The combination of the weave, the dye techniques, and the finishing process is completely unique to this collection and unlike anything else,” Michael Mandapati, President of Warp & Weft, said.
“Having appreciated Gabellini Sheppard’s work for many years, I was excited to collaborate on this series and I’m looking forward to launching the Aerial Series.”
Michael Gabellini, Founding Partner of Gabellini Sheppard, says calling this series “Aerial” is inspired by that shift that happens when you have a change of perspective, that lifted sense from above.
“To place a rug into a room is a very simple act,” Michael Gabellini says. But one can expect Aerial 1, Aerial 2, and Aerial 3 to wholly transform a space.
