At Dutch Design Week: Regenerative Ceramics
All it takes is “Just One Brick.”

At least that’s the mantra of Yi Design, a Chinese company dedicated to recycling much of the millions of tons of ceramic waste into a very versatile building product.

Using a proprietary binding material, Yi Design fashions this nearly unending resource into a variety of bricks and tiles with multiple uses: from interior cladding as at a local Starbucks (above), to a special exhibit at the Shanghai Museum of Glass, showcasing a glass/ceramic structure made of recycled materials.

At the recently concluded Dutch Design Week, Yi Design presented “Just One Brick,” bringing architects, product designers, and artists into the conversation about the potential of recycled ceramics and “highlighting the innovative possibilities of this recycled brick material for themselves, the design community, and for our planet.”
