Cool Conceputal Lighting from David Abad
Global Lighting presents DA Editions, a new collection of pendant lights from Barcelona-based designer David Abad.
Abad has a sensibility to be reckoned with. The DOM1 Horizontal Pendant, for instance, is like Tinker Toys for grownups. This is a modular system of LED infiltrated modules that connect and extend fore and aft—“a dynamic multi-level design that can be configured to great lengths.”
There’s also the MK Horizontal Pendant, dropping from on high courtesy of thin metal shafts, only to expand horizontally toward the terminus of five multidirectional hemispheric shades in a geometric tour de force that’s “both aesthetically and functionally suited to large spaces.”
Also on tap for Global Lighting courtesy of Abad, the OPC Collection. Inspired by the linear artistry of Sol LeWitt, OPC utilizes brass shafts (available in three different finishes) to transcribe a series of implied cubes for a conceptual piece that offers much artistic potential.
Lastly, there’s the very dramatic Mercer Pendant, featuring an impressive rectangle of ebony granite. The stone at the centerpiece references NYC’s Mercer Street, as the light’s lustrous marbling recalls the famed cobblestone road.
