NYCXDesign 2019: New by Foscarini
This May new lighting by Foscarini made its US debut in celebration of NYCXDesign, including UpTown, Belle de Jour, Sun – Light of Love, and Nuée.
Eight introductions are on display at the Foscarini showroom in Soho, which reopened in February 2019. Architect Ferruccio Laviani created the windows and interior displays showcasing new products, including Laviani’s own UpTown. Sleek and tall, UpTown recalls the awe-inspiring beauty of skyscrapers.
Belle de Jour is another amazing floor lamp. Designed by Ilaria Marelli, Belle de Jour covers a delicate wire frame in a technical fabric that looks like cobwebs. A hexagonal base gives way to a blossoming top.
Suspension lamps include Sun – Light of Love by Tord Boontje, “an object that makes it hard to know where it begins and where it ends, like sunlight.” With its projecting rays, Sun – Light of Love resembles a spherical flower.
Another standout suspension lamp, Nuée seems to float in space like a cumulus cloud. Nuée was created by Marc Sadler after “lengthy research on the material.”
