Targeted Textiles from Designtex and Coalesse
Designtex and Coalesse have collaborated on a new line of textiles. While appropriate for any upholstered furnishing, the fabrics are especially tailored to Coalesse designs: “Creating a collection of textiles with a specific suite of furniture in mind allowed for extensive rendering and more nuanced decisions around scale and patterning.”
Featuring tailored cotton yarn, Italian wool, closed loop yarn, and a linen/wool blend, the collection is comprised of seven distinct patterns.
Examples include Burrard, which utilizes a deeply quilted pattern to create surface interest, and Willis, a tight weave that creates a clean, classic look.
These different cloths may be combined with the Bixby patterns, an Italian wool with an intricate geometric design.
Designtex practices an environmentally conscious closed-loop production process, utilizing pre-consumer recycled cotton from t-shirt waste, in addition to finely milled wool and linen.
Designtex and Coalesse report that the collaboration between textile and furniture design was mutually beneficial and enlightening, manifesting in a more cohesive relationship between pattern and furnishing—less pattern misalignment as well as a more targeted selection of colors.
