Wallpapers by Gucci Décor
When luxury fashion brands branch out into furniture or décor, sometimes great things happen. Wallpapers by Gucci Décor represents a fruitful foray into commercial and residential design.
The seven wallpapers in the Gucci collection play with icons, scale, and color in bold and inventive ways. Tiger Face, for example, transfers the tiger motif—“often associated with strength and bravery”— from Gucci clothing, bags, and shoes to the wall. In subtle blocks of color, Tiger Face wallpaper lets the majestic animal reign.
Animals also command attention in Gucci’s Heron and Pearl Eyes wallpapers. Soft pink makes the majestic heron stand out, alluding to natural history illustrations of centuries past. Bees surrounded by pearl ornamentation harken back to Gucci’s 1970’s ready-to-wear collections, which introduced the bee symbol. The playful combination of geometry with eye-like forms and menswear-inspired colors is very postmodern pastiche.
Florals get a new look in Pineapple, Thistles and Birds, and Herbarium (a toile in Emerald, Cerise, or Black). But it’s Tiger Cards that really represents the iconic brand’s maximalism. With “Gucci’s most recognizable codes as vintage style playing cards,” Tiger Cards is like an old traveling trunk covered in stickers from faraway lands. It brings back nostalgic memories from royal excursions you never took. There are hares and foxes from European hunts, jumping and diving whales from ocean voyages, and tigers and snakes from exotic jungles.
