Atmospheric Wallcoverings by Jill Malek
New York-based designer Jill Malek explores “frequencies found in nature and urban landscapes.” Her subtle, shifting wallcoverings—including Terrains, Voyageur, and Luci Della Città—are rhythmic and dimensional.
Terrains takes its name from natural landscapes. The subtle multi-directional lines resemble a topographic map. In colors like Clay, Soft Clay, Earth, and Ocean, the pattern is atmospheric and soothing. Digitally printed on commercial-grade vinyl, Terrains works equally well in residential and commercial spaces.
Voyageur looks like “the robust flight map systems that are utilized throughout the world.” The intersecting lines create a modern expression of wanderlust. Both black and white patterns—white lines against black and black lines against white—are sharp and graphic. Yellow Citron and red Candyland offer bold color along with captivating geometry. Voyageur comes in clay-coated paper.
Inspired by “the soft melting colors of city lights,” Luci Della Città is a pattern of haloed lights.
As much an interpretation of water drops as automobile headlamps, the ringed, out-of-focus circles seem to float in space—the effect is mesmerizing.
