Furniture Majors Snapshot, Q3 2018: Herman Miller, Knoll Spec Rates Trend Up; Haworth, Steelcase Down
Data is in for the Third Quarter 2018 (June through September) U.S. specification rates for the Major Furniture Brands, and it comes as no surprise that industry powerhouse Herman Miller is trending up.
After suffering brief downturns toward the end of 2017 and in spring of this year, Herman Miller has been on a steady rise, leading the other major brands at Quarter's close with a 7.03% rate of all furniture specified.
Competitor Steelcase is keeping pace. From October of last year (approximately 8.17%), Steelcase dipped to a First Quarter low of around 3.69%, before rebounding up to 10.2% this summer. Since then, spec rates have leveled out to a Third Quarter close of 6.29%, putting them firmly in second place.
Both Haworth and Knoll continue to hover in the 1% to 4% range. During the past year, the brands peaked at 5.8% (Haworth) and 3.2% (Knoll), each of them closing the Third Quarter in the mid twos (2.54% and 2.29% respectively).
