Skydro Ceiling Lamp
For those with the deep pockets to install a constellation of otherworldly, amorphous, metallic ovoids on their ceiling, Skydro might be just the thing.
In its broad appropriation of elemental forms, this innovative Ross Lovegrove lamp evokes heaven and earth, the sky above and the subterranean depths, the far reaches of space as well as the compounding mysteries of the molten pressures down down down in the bowels of the earth.
For me, Skydro resembles enigmatic drops of Mercury in solution, free to wander at the whims of a zero-gravity environment, gentle blobs on an unseen trajectory.
The light also resembles a shiny, interstellar pebble, polished to a satin sheen by undetected forces.
Skydro is a kind of cousin of Lovegrove's equally compelling Mercury Suspension Lamp. Both feature a mirror-treated die-cast aluminum diffuser and a painted steel-bearing structure. The lightsource is LED.
The piece is a visionary's dream (it is the child of Lovegrove after all)-individual units can be added and assembled for custom applications, creating possibilities for an entire nest of Skydros atop corridors, within salons.
Says Artemide: "The ability to customize makes Skydro an object of desire that can bring imagination to reality.
Indeed. And in whatever formation your imagination concocts, Skydro will keep all eyes upon it.
