Plastic Blowing by Kodai Iwamoto Design
Borrowing from the field of glass blowing, Japanese designer Kodai Iwamoto has created his own technique for plastic blowing.
Kodai produces vases and objects in lovely shapes and effects using cheap, mass-produced material-in this case, the ubiquitous plastic pipe.
Iwamoto explains, "By applying air pressure into a closed pipe, which was slowly warmed by a heater to make it soft, my flower vase was born."
The final product is affected by various factors, including the shape of the mold and the amount of air pressure and heat. In this way, plastic blowing is somewhat akin to glass blowing.
