Ringelpiez by Ingo Maurer
Work by Ingo Maurer, including a new floor lamp, will be on display this January at IMM Cologne 2017. Ringelpiez integrates dimmable LED lights into the ring, which seems impossibly suspended on a slim rod. Like much of Maurer's lighting, Ringelpiez focuses on lightness.
Constructed of an aluminum ring and carbon fiber rod, Ringelpiez is surprisingly adjustable. Without any tools, users can adjust the angle of the ring and change the orientation of the LEDs (to provide up or down lighting). And the extendable rod can be set vertically or at a 15-degree angle.
Like his other lighting designs, Ringelpiez stresses uncompromising form. The floor lamp is distilled into nothing more than straight and round shapes. Maurer has even hidden the cable inside the rod, so "there is no visual noise."
