Fine Art for Healthcare from Henry Domke
Research shows that hospital patients who are exposed to nature experience less stress, require less pain medication, and ultimately heal faster than patients who are not.
Henry Domke, founder of Henry Domke fine art and for many years a family practice physician, has always known that healthcare patients should be immersed in nature. Accordingly, in 2003, Dr. Domke established his company in order to fill a need for "better and more appropriate art for hospitals and medical facilities."
Domke's aesthetic is informed by the natural environment surrounding his home-a 600 acre property in Central Missouri. This accounts for the preponderance of wildflowers, open landscapes, and sky scenes within his oeuvre.
He is also influenced by various regions and life forms found throughout the country. Coastal scenes, mountainous terrains, and aquatic life all figure large in his catalog of some 6,700+ images.
Domke is active at the intersection of healthcare and design. He has multiple contacts at the Center for Health Design and is perpetually investigating the design elements that aid patients in their recoveries.
"But the very best part of my job, besides the many wonderful people I've met and worked with over the years, is hearing stories from patients who've seen one of my pictures in a hospital or doctor's office and have been moved by it."
