Design Miami 2016: Genesis Collection by Arik Levy for COMPAC
Designed by Arik Levy for COMPAC, the Genesis Collection was on view at Design Miami in two very different presentations. At the Design Miami showroom, Levy used the surfaces to create Ice, a group of monolithic furniture using the different colors of the surface collection: Ice Black, Ice Orange, Ice White, and Ice Nude.
And on Friday evening, COMPAC CEO Paco Sanchis hosted a VIP reception at the waterfront event space of P©rez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). Here, COMPAC brought in giant slabs from the Genesis Collection, displaying them in front of Biscayne Bay. Both events demonstrated "how the collection can be used in different applications," including walls, floors, and worktops.
Inspired by the Arctic's frozen lakes of ice, Genesis mimics the fissures and fragments found in ice and natural stone. A large chunk of Ice White (mostly gray) with white striations looked particularly beautiful next to the dark ocean water, lit up by the purple lights beneath the MacArthur Bridge.
