Raimond Tensegrity Floor Lamp by Moooi
Designed by Raimond Puts and realized by Ox-ID for Dutch firm Moooi, Raimond Tensegrity Floor Lamp is a giant LED sphere balanced on wooden criss-crossed sticks.
The name tensegrity means tensional integrity or "floating compression," a term coined by architect Buckminster Fuller (of geodesic dome fame). Basically, tensegrity refers to any object where push and pull forces work together.
As a floor lamp, Raimond Tensegrity is both weightless and grounded. The intricate stainless steel bands lend the sphere a floating appearance, while the solid oak feet with leather straps give the base an organic, root-like semblance.
