Slimline ceramics: Bathroom Trend

As technology advances, sanitaryware is slimming down. New ceramic composites mixed with quartz and minerals are harder than their traditional ceramic counterparts and can be moulded into thin forms that were previously impossible to produce.

Cielo has extended its Shui line designed by Paolo D'Arrigo. The new Shui Comfort collection's washbasins are made in Extrà Ceramic, Cielo's innovative 5-mm thin, colored ceramic material that allows for large basins with rounded edges and ultra-thin edges.

Villeroy & Boch's new line of surface-mounted Artis washbasins perfectly demonstrate the design possibilities of its new material, TitanCeram. The new strengthened ceramic material, made from a blend of clay, quartz, feldspar and titanium oxide, can be molded into thin forms that were previously impossible to manufacture.

Designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, the Kartell for Laufen collection is made using the revolutionary material Saphirkeramik that combines the properties of plastic and ceramic. Made with a mineral called corundum, the material has been used to craft the sharp angles of this washbasin combining the exceptional hardness and folding strength of steel with all the advantages of classic sanitary ware - it's hygienic, hardwearing, and has a long lifespan.

Described as ' pure, elegant, natural or raw', Philippe Starck's clean-cut ME bathroom collection for Duravit has been reduced to its bare essentials with delicate edges that gives pieces a light, almost rimless appearance. In addition, new developments have made it possible to reduce the weight of the toilets and bidets in the range, resulting in attractive, sleek, self-contained components without fixing niches at the sides.

Spanish bathroom brand Inbani has launched a new range of super slim Corian® washbasins. Breaking away from basic geometry, the new range of washbasins have a softened interior edge and super slim profile. All of the models and versions of the new range are made in 12mm-thick, white matt Corian®. "We obtain smooth volumes and precise contours, without additions, by giving way to simple yet elegant styles of washbasin," say the designers.
