Tonella by Note Design Studio for Sancal
Swedish designers Note Design Studio have teamed with Spanish furniture manufacturers Sancal to create a new compact armchair design.
Launched last month, the Tonella armchair by Note Design Studio for Sancal has a Marie Antoinette-style seat that is compact enough to fit into the smallest of corners
Drawing inspiration from Sancal’s archive of classic, French-style chairs, Note Design Studio’s new ‘Tonella’ armchair is based upon an old dressing-table chair but realized with a much more compact frame.
Despite its reduced size it is enormously versatile, comfortable and sturdy, making it an ideal piece to accompany a sofa at home, be placed in hotel rooms, shop dressing rooms or public areas.
The metallic support is reminiscent of the wine barrel staves, that are commonly found in Yecla – a wine-growing region in southern Spain that is also the home of Sancal.
The Marie Antoinette-style seat, back and arms are made from moulded polyurethane foam. The plain interior area can be upholstered in fabric or leather, the outer area is quilted to follow the barrel style lines of the base and is therefore only available in fabric.
