Essay Seating by National Office Furniture
Every year, National Office Furniture, a unit of Kimball International, Inc., hosts a competition for Purdue Industrial Design students to create a furniture solution that solves a specific challenge. Essay Seating is the winner. National Office Furniture collaborated with former Purdue industrial design student Sasha Mahan-Rudolph to take this student task chair from design to development.
Student Desk and Task Chair Features Problem-Solving Details
Essay responds to comments and complaints from students and facility managers. Its details confirm the amount of thought that went into its design. A chevron back makes it easy to hang backpacks and bags without their slipping. This shape then gets repeated into the back's cutouts, which both allow for ventilation and add visual interest. Other thoughtful touches include a non-handed tablet that is large enough to accommodate a laptop and notepad and a spacious tray base for storage.
Produced in eight signature colors, including two blues and a bold red, Essay offers "smart design, intuitive functionality, and a broad product mix." Essay is also available with an upholstered seat and in stool height.
