This new lounge chair design by Dutch designer Arian Brekveld for Netherlands-based company Spectrum Meubelen was inspired by the shape of a car seat.

The Vik Lounge chair’s low upholstered foam seat is contained within a light pipe frame.

The tilted position and angled lines of the low-slung seat, along with the adjustable headrest, recall the structured design of a car seat. Brekveld explains: “"Car seats are always comfortable. They are beautifully made, the materials are used in a clever way and, although they are small, they provide a lot of comfort! I wanted to translate those qualities in my design."’

About the manufacturer: Set up in Bergeijk in the Netherlands in January 1941 as 't Spectrum, Spectrum is a furniture brand that is perhaps best known for its products designed by Martin Visser, whose numerous designs largely determined the character of the collection. While preserving the focus on function, austerity and clear construction that defined its original collections, Spectrum now works with designers such as Studio Parade and Chris Slutter to produce modern high-end furniture.
